Wind energy is becoming one of the most important tools in Europe’s journey toward clean and secure energy. While the world faces rising uncertainty, the EU is doubling down on its commitment to renewables—and wind power is at the center of that effort.

As of 2023, wind energy provides around 19% of Europe’s electricity. To achieve the EU’s ambitious goal of obtaining at least 42.5% of its gross final energy consumption from renewable sources by 2030, significant expansion in wind energy capacity is essential. Recent strategic initiatives such as the European Commission’s Wind Power Package, the REPowerEU plan, and coordinated regional goals underline Europe’s commitment to accelerating wind power deployment. Europe faces challenges due to its dependency on China for raw materials and turbine components, prompting discussions on industrial autonomy and strategic independence.

From ambitious targets for 2030 to new EU actions supporting faster permitting and local industry, wind energy is set to grow rapidly across Europe. The focus is not only on climate goals, but also on reducing dependence on fossil fuels and boosting European technology and jobs.
